The Aikido Club at North Carolina State University (NCSU) was founded in 1991. We are an extension of Raleigh Aikikai, under Christopher Crandall, Shidoin (5th dan), a student of the late Mitsunari Kanai, Shihan (live-in student of the founder, O’Sensei; member of the board of technical directors of the United States Aikido Federation).
The club operates under Club Sports and NCSU Campus Recreation.
The Aikido Club at NCSU holds practice in Carmichael Gym on Basketball Court #1 on Tuesday and Court #2 on Thursday.
Entering Carmichael Gym from the Cates Ave. brick bridge entrance, go past the stairs and throught the double doors. Court #11 is BEHIND the big red divider. Women’s Basketball practices in front of the divider, and the Cheerleaders and Rock Wall are further back.
The Aikido Club meets in the gym on campus; to be a member of the club you must be able to get into Carmichael Gym with either a student ID or a gym membership. For non-students, our parent dojo Raleigh Aikikai may be a viable alternative to practicing on campus. That said, students, community members, faculty, and staff are all welcome to join us at any time.
