FAQ

If you have any other questions that may not be listed, send us an email! We’d love to be able to help anyway we can!

Do I need any prior experience to join the club?

Absolutely not! Our members have skills that range from novice to expert! We encourage you to join no matter what level of experience you have.

Can I still join if I do not want to compete or spar?

Yes! In fact, because of the intensity of our boxing practices, many members join our club for the workout itself. Our regular practices are no-contact.

Can I join the club if I am a graduate student or faculty/staff member?

Yes! According to NC State’s Club Sports Handbook, current students eligible to participate in Club Sports must be full fee-paying students at NC State University. Current faculty or staff members are defined as either full or part time employees of NC State University who are eligible for membership to the Carmichael Complex. All faculty and staff members must purchase a gym membership before participating with any club.

Do I need to bring my own equipment?

No. The club will provide the necessary equipment you need. However, you are encouraged to bring your own gear if you would like.

Can I still purchase NC State Boxing Club gear if I am not a member?

Absolutely! Please contact us via email (NCStateClubBoxing@gmail.com) for your request!

What do practices consist of?

A regular club practice will consist of an hour of conditioning and an hour of form work. Conditioning includes warm-up calisthenics, stretching, high-intensity interval training, and body weight exercises such as push-ups. Form work will include drills focused on stance, punches, and defensive maneuvers.

I have been boxing for years, can I compete right away?

No. For your safety, you will still need to be evaluated by our coach and receive his permission to compete or spar. You will also need NCBA registration before you are able to compete at official events. This requires a USA Boxing passbook, allowing you to compete at the amateur college boxing level. See more information at either the National Collegiate Boxing Association Website or USA Boxing.
