NAACP Marches to Governor’s Mansion

Monday, Sept. 16, the N.C. State chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People rolled out in protest of the legislative attack on voting rights and public education.

The campus chapter, along with the North Carolina NAACP and members of the Forward Together Movement, rallied around the Governor’s mansion with signs that emphasized the demands necessary to improve student voting rights and reinvest in public education.

Uniting students from universities across the state, as well as adult allies, the march also commemorated the 50th anniversary of the 16th St. Birmingham Church bombing. The tragic event took the lives of four Black girls and one boy who were dedicated to the battle for equal voting and civil rights.
