Raleigh Municipal Elections: What You Need to Know

October 10th election  

Raleigh municipal elections will take place October 10th.  Raleigh residents have the opportunity to vote for Mayor, City Council and a 206.7 million dollar transportation bond.  The municipal elections in Wake county are nonpartisan so the political party of the candidates are not listed on the ballot.

September 15:    Voter registration deadline

October 3:     Last day for absentee ballot request

September 21 – October 7:  One stop early voting

October 10:  Election day for Raleigh – 6:30  am – 7:30 pm

November 7:   Run off election for Raleigh if no mayoral candidate receives a majority of votes

Check if you are registered to vote at your current address using the voter lookup tool from the North Carolina State Board of Elections website found here, https://vt.ncsbe.gov/RegLkup/. This tool can also be used to access a sample ballot based on your current address. One stop early voting

If you aren’t registered to vote in wake county, you can register when you go to one stop early voting. There are multiple early voting sites but the most convenient for NC State students is the Wake County Board of Elections Office 337 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh 27601.  Early voting will be available M-F 8:30 am – 5:00pm from 9/21 – 10/6 and on Saturday 10/7 from 10 am to 1:00 pm.  For a full list of voting sites in Wake county, visit www.wakegov.com/elections

Absentee voting

Many cities and towns have local elections on odd years. College students have the option to register to vote at their home (permanent address) or at their campus local address. The absentee/ mail in ballot request form is available on the state board of elections and county board of elections websites, www.ncsbe.gov/absentee-voting-mail
