November Community Calendar

Here are a few events to look forward to in the month of November.

Native American Heritage Month Kick-off

Nov. 1 – Alexis Raeana and the The Castle Street Blues is a six-person blues band. They will be performing from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm in the Talley Student Union lobby.

NC State LIVE Presents Nella (Stewart Theatre)

Nov. 2 – Nella is a up-and-coming Latin Grammy nominated artist.  The emerging artist will be performing in the Stewart Theatre of Talley at 8:00 pm. Tickets for students will be running at $8.

Project SAFE Workshop 

Nov. 5 – This is a three-hour long workshop hosted by the GLBT Center designed to inform participants about the needs of GLBT students. The workshop is open to students, staff, alumni and faculty. The event will take place in Hunt Library, Room 4106 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Stalking is Not Romantic 

Nov. 6 – A workshop dedicated to discuss the impact of media portrayal of stalking being romanticized and its implications. The event will be held in the Women’s Center Lounge from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm.

Black Alumni Society: Karaoke for the Culture

Nov. 7 – A percentage night will take place at Woody’s City Market with 10 percent of food and drink sales going to Black Alumni Society scholarship funds. The karaoke night will go from 10:00 pm – 2:00 am.

Black Excellence Summit

Nov. 8 – This all-day summit will allow collaboration to take place between Black students, alumni, staff, faculty and administrators. The Black Alumni Society will be hosting these events in Witherspoon Student Center from 8:00 am – 2:45 pm.

Black Alumni Society: 40th Anniversary Gala 

Nov. 8 – The Black Alumni Society will be celebrating their 40th homecoming reunion. The Gala for the celebration pay homage to influential members of the NC State black community and recognize scholarship recipients. The event will be from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at the Park Alumni Center.

Channel Blond

Nov. 12 – Channel Blond is a new Black queer group on campus with the intent of fostering a community. They meet every other Tuesday in the African American Cultural Center library.

Native American Heritage Month Display Reveal

Nov. 12 – The Poole College of Management will reveal an artwork display on the third floor of Nelson Hall dedicated to celebrating NAHM. The reveal will happen at 6:00 pm.

Native American Portrayal in the Media

Nov. 13 – Mackenzie Hunt and Dr. Jai Jackson of the College of Education will host a discussion on the topic of media portrayal of Native Americans and how this affects self-identification and representation. The talk will occur in Poe Hall 512 from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm.

Supporting Survivors of Color

Nov. 14 – The Women’s Center will be hosting a workshop on the ways to support people of color who have been the victims of sexual/domestic violence. The event will go from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm.

Shifting Our Framework for Supporting Students with Disabilities in the Classroom

Nov. 15 – The GLBT Center will host a workshop on teaching participants about being more accommodating and supportive of students with disabilities. The event will be in Talley 4280 from 9:00 am – 11:00 am.

The Kappa Lambda Chapter Of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Pageant

Nov. 17 – The Kappa Lambda Ques will be hosting their 5th annual Miss Omega Psi Phi Scholarship Pageant.  The event will be hosted in the Piedmont Ballroom of Talley from 7:11 pm – 9:30 pm.

Native American History Month Cultural Night

Nov. 18 – NAHM Cultural Night will showcase the rich culture of Native American with Powwow Dancers leading the event. The event will be held in Talley 4280 from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm.

Cultural Values About Gender and Violence in the Trans Community

Nov. 19 – A discussion will be held about the rampant violence that members of the transgender community face. This will be held from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm in Talley 3210.

Transgender Day of Remembrance Vigil

Nov. 20 – The GLBT center will host a candlelight vigil in remembrance of the communities across the globe where transgender people were murdered. The vigil will be held at 6:00 pm in the GLBT Center.

GLBT Holiday Potluck

Nov. 21 – The GLBT Center will be having a potluck for faculty, staff, and students. The potluck will be from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm in the Center.

NAHM: Indigenizing the Academy

Nov. 22 – Dr. Malinda Maynor Lowery, a historian and documentary film producer, will be discussing the underrepresentation of Native Americans in the film industry. Dr. Lowery will be giving this speech in Talley 3222 from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm.

24th Annual American Indian Heritage Celebration

Nov. 23 – The North Carolina Museum of History will be celebrating Native American Heritage Month with a collection of musicians, dancers, artists, storytellers and authors from the eight tribes of North Carolina. The event will be at the NC Museum of History from 11 am – 4 pm.

Taste of Native American Cuisine

Nov. 25 – Clark Dining Hall will be hosting an event to share Native American dishes. The event will be from 10:30 am – 1:30 pm.
