Dear District Attorney Freeman,
I am contacting you today to demand justice for George Floyd who was brutally murdered by those who swore to protect him. As a concerned citizen, I demand the immediate charge of Derek Chauvin, Tuo Thao, and all other officers involved in this grisly killing. Their inaction proved to be as deadly as Chauvin’s actions.
When you took office you swore to protect all victims of crimes in Minneapolis. George Floyd is the victim of a most heinous crime. His life was cut short as he was denied every liberty bestowed upon him as an American citizen. Due process, the right to seek justice, and the right to live, all stolen from him by a public servant.
Now, as you face the crossroads of this important decision, I trust you will make the right choice and bring charges against those officers who wrongfully and willfully murdered George Floyd on that fateful day. George Floyd deserves justice and you can deliver it. You must deliver it.
Regards,
Your name

To the Chancellor, Vice Provost, and the NC State Administration at large,
My name is (Your Name), member of the class of (Year). As a (former/current) student of North Carolina State University, I am not satisfied.
Your statements in response to the police violence against and murder of Black people happening all across our country were not enough. To begin, neither of your statements contained the word “police.” They made no explicit mention of the lethal force used by police against George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless others. To “denounce racism,” you must acknowledge and hold accountable those who are committing these violent acts of racism: the police.
You must also take responsibility for the ways that our university has failed and continues to fail its Black students. Nubian Message has called on you to try again. I am standing in solidarity with my Black classmates and neighbors. If you haven’t read their latest letter from the editor, please do so here: https://orgs.ncsu.edu/thenubianmessage-com/2020/06/01/a-letter-from-the-editor-please-try-again-chancellor-woodson/
It is time to scale back NC State’s relationship with RPD. Raleigh police faced an ILLEGALLY armed group of white protestors (see State v. Huntley & State v. Dawson) demanding that we “Reopen NC” without violence and in plain clothes. This same police department, in riot gear, tear-gassed and harrassed peaceful crowds protesting the murder of Black people by police. RPD should not and cannot be part of our community if we truly wish to support our Black students, neighbors, and fellow citizens.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We are working to make NC State a better place, and to do so, we must support our Black students.
Sincerely,
(Your Name)
