WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1/HD-2 is student-run non-commercial radio from NC State University. We pride ourselves on our alternative programming of indie rock, electronic, underground hip-hop, metal and jazz and have been consistently named among the best in the Triangle by INDY Week. Boasting 25,000 watts, WKNC can be heard throughout the Triangle and far beyond via our webcast. Our aim is to provide NC State students with the knowledge needed for a career in the broadcast industry and listeners with music that doesn’t suck.
WKNC is committed to maintaining high standards of digital accessibility as outlined in Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. All paid staff receive accessibility training regarding descriptive links, alternative text, tables, color contrast, lists, headings and audio/video captioning and transcripts for all digital communications.

WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1/HD-2 adopts the content removal policy of our sister publication Technician.
As a policy, content will not be removed from the WKNC website. When requests to remove content are made they will be referred to the general manager to make a final decision. Extenuating circumstances in which a general manager may consider removing content include, but are not limited to: when a person’s safety could be negatively impacted by their explicit or implied identification in an article or photo, such as witness protection, undercover law enforcement or interpersonal violence situations, or if the basic premise of an article is both false and damaging. The general manager will not remove accurate content simply because someone deems it damaging to their reputation and job prospects. If content is removed, the article asset should not be deleted, but have the body copy removed and replaced with a brief explanation, as to preserve the original URL.
WKNC 88.1 FM offers two production studios for basic voice recording. Each studio is equipped with four Electro-Voice RE20 microphones, an Axia IQ console and Adobe Audition recording software. Recordings are made as Windows PCM .wav files with a 44100 sample rate, stereo channels and 16-bit resolution unless otherwise specified.
WKNC does not have an ISDN line, but we do have a Comrex ACCESS rackmount for high-quality recording. We also maintain an Axia iQ6 Six-Line Telco Gateway for tape sync interviews.
Rental rates are $60 per hour, billable in 30-minute increments. That price includes a trained production assistant to work with you on your project. We can upload files at your request, but you may also bring your own USB flash drive for file transfer.
When using the WKNC production studio, you retain full copyright of all material recorded.
