Site Migration Guide

Overview

  1. Determine what platform your old site lives on. If you aren’t sure, contact tech-orgs@help.ncsu.edu and provide the URL for the current site.
  2. Make a backup of all your website files for safekeeping.
  3. Use the instructions below to export out your content from the old site and then import into to the new site on this platform.
  4. Worst case scenario – manual – create new pages in new site, copy/paste content. Download images, upload.
  5. Still need help? Contact us at tech-orgs@help.ncsu.edu and provide the URL for the current site.

Blogger

  1. Create an XML file of your Blogger site by following the “Back up your blog” section of these instructions.
  2. Please note that this only captures your posts and comments; pages, media and other elements may be need to be manually copied and pasted.
  3. Import your old site content into your new site.
  4. Leave up the old site long enough to confirm setup of your new site.
  5. Where possible, create a redirect from your old URL to the new site. If the old site has a ncsu.edu URL, then contact us at tech-orgs@help.ncsu.edu for assistance with that step.

HTML

  1. There is not an automated import tool.
  2. Copy your content from the live web page (don’t copy the code itself).
  3. Past the content into a page or post on the new site by right clicking and choose “Past and Match Style” – this will insert your content cleanly without additional tags on the backend.
  4. Format your content as desired and publish the page/post.
  5. Download images from the old website, and upload via the Media section on your dashboard.

Weebly

  1. Create a ZIP file of your Weebly site by following the “Back up your site” section of these instructions.
  2. Please note that this only captures your posts;pages, media and other elements may be need to be manually copied and pasted.
  3. Import your old site content into your new site.
  4. Leave up the old site long enough to confirm setup of your new site.
