The North Carolina Science Fair Foundation invites science and engineering professionals to participate in the Scientific Review Committee (SRC) for the North Carolina State Science and Engineering Fair (NCSEF) (http://www.ncsciencefair.org).

The SRC reviews and advises student research projects to ensure that projects are conducted safely, ethically, and responsibly. In addition, the SRC evaluates student research plans, certifications, projects, and exhibits for compliance with the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) Rules. For this reason, we invite individuals with a variety of areas of scientific, engineering, and mathematics expertise to help in this important work. The fair hosts students from the elementary through the high school levels, and the project themes are quite diverse, so individuals with experience in all STEM fields are welcome.

SRC instructional material and presentation slides will be made available in early February for new members, and we plan to have a brief orientation via Zoom prior to the beginning of the formal review period. The formal review period will start around February 12 and will extend to mid-March.

Because of restrictions related to the pandemic, we have transitioned to a fully virtual review session format. Review files are made available on a Google drive, and review comments and marks are returned via a Google Sheet and Google Forms. In this format, new files are added to the Google Drive at least once and usually twice weekly, and reviewers are able to review as their time allows. The commitment is generally ~2 hours/week. These details will be explained during the Zoom orientation.
