To the Wolfpack Community,
We, the Graduate Student Association of NC State, express our deep concern regarding the
recent proceedings in the NC State Student Government related to Resolution 29, titled "A
Resolution to Promote Peace and Human Rights by Advocating for a Permanent Ceasefire in
Gaza, Condemning Hate Speech, and Enhancing Educational Resources on Palestine and Israel."
It has come to our attention that, over the summer, before the scheduled vote on this resolution a
secret meeting was convened by the Student Senate Pro Tempore where the Student Senate
President joined the meeting over a phone call and that meeting excluded certain student senators
who later felt hurt and felt their voices were being silenced. Reports indicate that the alleged
purpose of this meeting was to influence senators to vote against the resolution.
We, the Graduate Student Association of NC State, view these actions as potentially indicative of
a troubling lack of leadership and unethical conduct within the Student Government. Such
behavior undermines the principles of inclusivity, fairness, and transparency that are essential in
any leadership role and the value of democracy upon which our Student Government was
founded.
The NC State Graduate Student Association firmly condemns the convening of the secret
meeting and the current apparent absence of accountability for those in positions of power in
Student Government who engage in manipulative practices. These actions not only sets a
detrimental precedent for the conduct of student governance but also compromises the integrity
of our student body, including graduate students, as a whole.
We ask the Student Body President to provide a clear justification for how this incident occurred
under her leadership. We request a detailed account of the actions taken against the officers
involved in this misconduct and the measures being implemented to prevent such incidents in the
future.
It is imperative that we uphold the values of our institution and ensure that all voices are heard
and respected in the democratic process. We believe that leadership should foster an environment
where discussions are open, honest, and inclusive, transcending differences in ethnicity, race,
gender, religion, and student status (undergraduate/graduate).
Sincerely,
The NC State Graduate Student Association
